Keurboom Park’s Newest Path
Some of you will have by now noticed the newly paved central path. People are asking why it’s being paved at all and why it stops a little short of being a full path.
To answer the first question. The park has been offered new and/or altered playground equipment to make the playground more inclusive. All children, including those who are differently abled, should be accepted through the medium of play. Equipment and playgrounds need to be accessible to all. Inclusion benefits children of all kinds of abilities because they learn from each other.
There will also be picnic tables and benches that allow for wheelchair access.
The Park Association has been awarded some donor funds to provide this equipment. The central path was always full of puddles and potholes every winter and needed to be resurfaced before winter rains. When the perimeter path was constructed ten years ago this central path was planned but never constructed because of budget constraints. Now with impetus from the need for wheelchair access the City has awarded the funds - for which we are very grateful.
The short length of path that remains to be built will commence soon (the funds are to come from a different City budget).
